Turkish OSM Resources and Tools Efforts

Our member, Oğuzhan Er, has written about his efforts following last year’s HOT Summit and State of the Map events which we participated thanks to the support of Sivil Düşün, and how these efforts have grown into our growing volunteer team in his OpenStreetMap diary entry:

Can Eren Oguzhan Heidelberg HOT Summit 2019

“Last year I was at Heidelberg to participate in SOTM and HOT Summit for the first time in my life. I attended many workshops and it was a very enlightening experience for me. One of the workshops that I participated in was WeeklyOSM. From the moment I returned to Turkey, we started to translate WeeklyOSM with Yer Çizenler core and volunteer team. This was the first step in creating OSM-related Turkish documentation.

While the Turkish OSM community continues to grow, Turkish support in OSM-related software and tools are still very limited. The community pointed out that the Yer Çizenler should take more initiative in this regard.

We continued our work by translating the HOT Tasking Manager version 4 into Turkish in the first quarter of 2020. For further expansion of the process, we applied for the HOT micro-grant program. HOT found our efforts valuable and we were entitled to participate in the program.

Our aim is to provide Turkish language support to OSM-related tools and to enrich Turkish documentation by developing our efforts and providing new skills to our volunteer team.

We would like to thank our volunteer team for their contribution and the HOT for finding our efforts valuable.”
